The Center for Smart Engineering Materials (CSEM), New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research scientist to work on materials chemistry.

The applicant should be a skilled chemist, chemical analyst or materials scientist who will be the key person and the main contact point for chemical synthesis and characterization in the Center. The candidate should have strong experience in chemical methods for characterization of organic materials or materials for devices from academia, industry or both. The candidate should be able synthesize target chemical compounds which can be used for chemical sensing, by either using literature protocols or by designing new synthetic procedures from scratch. The candidate will use physical, chemical and other methods for reliable and accurate characterization, and will deliver the results and the products to the other members of the Center. The candidate should also have experience with training researchers, students and other interested individuals on a range of analytical and physicochemical, spectroscopic, microscopic, mechanical and other methods for characterization. The candidate will oversee the research of students and other researchers in the Center, will file results and prepare them for presentation and publication, and they will contribute materials and preparation of the reports to the sponsor(s).

Applicants must have a PhD in science or engineering.
