SALARY:

Assistant Professor: 29,046 – 31,993 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 35,588 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

Associate Professor: 36,127 – 38,967 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 42,705 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

Senior Associate Professor: 43,353 – 45,941 RMB/month (with the opportunity to go to 49,319 RMB/month based on future annual performance and evaluations after being in post);

Professor: A competitive salary in line with expectations for the discipline

The Department of Applied Linguistics is a research-intensive environment with two MA programmes, which also contributes a Linguistics pathway on four UG programmes. We are also currently developing a Applied Linguistics Research Laboratory.

The Department of Applied Linguistics seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic Assistant/Associate Professor with excellent research, teaching, and supervision qualifications who will contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching on multilingualism for MA Applied Linguistics with specialization in multilingualism. A special emphasis will be given to documented research experience in multilingualism.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the department’s research profile. The successful candidate will also be expected to deliver lectures and seminars in topics across our linguistics curricula, and to supervise PhD students. The candidate will be expected to teach modules in the new MA, including Introduction to Multilingualism, and Multilingualism in Society. A contribution to academic administration will also be expected.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

  • A Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Applied Linguistics, Bi/Multilingualism, or a related discipline is essential.
  • A strong track record of research, appropriate to stage of career is essential.
  • Experience of teaching in a Higher Education environment is essential
  • Experience of teaching at the Postgraduate level is highly desirable
  • Experience of Technology Enhanced Learning is desirable.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

Members of Academic Staff are entitled to subsidies for accommodation, travel, and children’s educational, medical insurance, and a one-time relocation allowance is provided. Overseas staff may receive a tax “holiday,” depending on nationality and personal circumstances.

CITIZENSHIP AND VISA REGULATIONS:

Employment at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is regulated by Chinese Labour Laws, and must comply with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment with regard to obtaining work permits and visas. Please be advised candidates over 65 may be not eligible for PRC work visa.
