Established in 2000, the Department (http://www.LN.edu.hk/cultural/) offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Cultural Studies with a strong interdisciplinary orientation. It also admits postgraduate research students leading to the award of MPhil and PhD degrees. Since 2003, it has been offering a self-financed taught programme leading to the Master degree of Cultural Studies.

General Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD degree, and demonstrated trans-disciplinary/interdisciplinary scholarship and social impacts in one or more of the following areas: digital culture and social media, urban commons and ecology, gender/sexuality and labor, textual analysis, ethnography or big data analysis. A strong interest in any of the following will be an advantage: Hong Kong Studies, China Studies, and Global South.

Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. The appointee will be a committed academic with a record of research and scholarship of international stature, and will be able to demonstrate commitment to the vision and orientation of the Department and the University. The appointee should demonstrate a track record of international quality publications and grants-based research in areas relevant to the Department’s profile is required.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may normally lead to longer-term appointment with consideration for substantiation.
