Sitting within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Engineering was established to focus on research and education in the area of electronics. It has since expanded to other fields of engineering, including telecommunications, electrical and electronic, mechatronics, civil, materials and mechanical, and biomedical engineering. The school is growing its capabilities in biomedical sensing and imaging, sustainable energy systems, future wireless networks, and optical and photonics.

Reporting to the Executive Dean, Science and Engineering, the Dean, School of Engineering (Head, School of Engineering), plays a key role as a member of the faculty’s executive group and, in conjunction with them, identifies strategic areas of focus and develops and implements University and faculty operational plans for the school. This important role drives school performance and engages staff to sustain and achieve agreed measurable outcomes in areas including research rankings, research productivity, student satisfaction, graduate employability and student load.

The Dean, School of Engineering (Head, School of Engineering), will drive academic performance to achieve the University’s objectives by fostering a culture of transformative learning, innovation and excellence in teaching, and will be a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion. They will bring credibility, enthusiasm and leadership competencies, along with demonstrated skills in managing people, resources and financial performance. The Dean, School of Engineering (Head, School of Engineering), will build and sustain relationships with external stakeholders and support and generate growth in industry collaborations and partnerships.

You will be an experienced, visionary leader who exhibits qualities of collaboration and collegiality, and who is able to unite, inspire and create an inclusive and supportive culture of high performance. With demonstrated management and leadership experience within academic administration, you will possess a successful record in developing and implementing strategic plans aligned with organisational strategic priorities and a track record of productive partnerships with stakeholders such as industry, government, student organisations, institutions and alumni. Having earned a reputation for academic excellence, including recognition as an authority in your chosen discipline, you will offer a strong and highly regarded research profile, evidenced by ongoing publications in high-ranked journals. With proven expertise in curriculum design and innovation, you will have a successful record of delivery and assessment of quality teaching programs, and experience in modelling core academic and university values.
