Description

The Arabian Center for Climate and Environmental Sciences (ACCESS) at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a research support technician to help in analyzing the chemistry of the Arabian/Persian Gulf waters. The position will involve collecting, cataloging, storing and processing seawater samples, measuring and analyzing nutrients and chlorophyll pigments, and calibrating instruments and sensors, most of which related to marine biogeochemistry, and some related to air quality.

The successful applicant will support a diverse team of faculty, postdoctoral scientists, engineers and students in establishing a network of environmental monitoring stations across the UAE shoreline and systematically collecting and analyzing environmental samples from these stations to better understand the Arabian/Persian Gulf environment and its response to climate change. ACCESS is comprised of a diverse group of scientists studying oceanography, marine biology, atmospheric and ocean modeling, robotics and artificial intelligence. The center has access to state-of-the-art field and laboratory equipment and a research vessel. The candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and engineers, graduate and undergraduate students.

Applicants must have a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in marine science, chemistry or a related field. Experience with HPLC, water filtration, and making chemical reagents are a must. Applicants without these qualifications will not be considered. Certification for SCUBA diving and basic knowledge of calibrating instruments/sensors are desirable. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment and be part of a team are essential.

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled (submission on or before May 15 is highly recommended, as reviews will begin shortly thereafter). The anticipated start date of this position is September 1, 2022. For consideration, applicants need to submit a one-page cover letter, curriculum vitae and contacts for three references, all in PDF format.
