The School of Law and Social Sciences was established in August 2015 following a review of academic structures in 2014. The School has over 80 staff (FTE), approximately 1,500 students and an annual budget of approximately £15 million. It is currently organised into four academic Divisions: Education; Law; Social Sciences; and Urban, Environmental and Leisure Studies.

The School is concerned with those subjects that seek to provide an understanding of the complexities of contemporary social and cultural life, and of negotiating the opportunities and hazards of rapid social change. The key link between the various academic subjects is the need for, and examination of, social justice and global responsibility.  As a School we aim to provide learning that is at the cutting edge of each subject area, underpinned by first class teaching, scholarship, and research.

Our new Dean will drive the strategy and overall progress of the school, working with colleagues to develop and maintain excellence across both teaching/learning and research and playing a central role in relations with external partners. We are a values led institution which prides itself on attracting candidates who demonstrate strong inclusive leadership and the ability to facilitate smooth collaboration across LSBU’s seven Schools and the Professional Services Teams. The appointee will provide support and oversight to a strong team with a focus on developing the School’s teaching/learning and student offering, investing in research, deepening relationships with industry partners, and delivering new approaches in keeping with the University’s ethos and mission.

Ideal candidates will have a track record of providing effective and inspiring leadership across a range of relevant disciplines, overseeing the quality of a variety of programmes and fostering a healthy research culture.
