Appointment of Professor of Dementia Studies and Director of the Association for Dementia Studies

The University of Worcester is a high achieving, award-winning, dynamic institution set within an inclusive and engaged community. It is the number one University in the UK for gender equality with multiple accolades for teaching quality, inclusion, contribution to the community, and environmental sustainability. As the most improved University in the UK for research power in the 2014 REF, Worcester is home to one of the leading centres of excellence for research and education in person-centred dementia care – the Association of Dementia Studies.

The University now seeks to appoint a Professor of Dementia Studies and Director of the Association for Dementia Studies (ADS). This is a unique and exciting opportunity to lead ADS through the next phase of its development. Building on its global reputation in research into person-centred dementia care and real-world impact, the new Director will also have the opportunity to explore areas for expansion in the wider field of ageing and in areas such as digital innovation in health and care. The Director will act as Principal Investigator for the Centre and deliver a programme of knowledge exchange, which translates research into policy and practice, leading an energetic and dedicated multi-professional team engaged across a portfolio of research projects. In addition, as a member of the Senior Management Team for the School of Allied Health and Community they will represent ADS at a wider institutional level.

The successful candidate will be an established senior academic with a strong profile in dementia studies or a related field. They will have a track record of delivering world-leading and internationally recognised research, and of success in winning UKRI, NIHR and other national and international funding. The appointee will have excellent networks and links with other higher education institutions, the health and care sector, and relevant businesses and communities. They will bring strategic, academic and operational leadership together with a collaborative and inspirational approach to ensure the Centre’s continuing impact.

The University of Worcester is committed to providing a vibrant, ethical, and sustainable working environment that values equality and diversity. We strongly encourage individuals of all backgrounds to apply for this role.
