Salary: £31,406 to £38,587 Pro rata per annum (0.6 FTE)
Part Time Fixed Term for 24 months
Closing Date: Wednesday 18 May 2022

Time: 0.6 FTE fixed term for 24 months, with the opportunity to extend for an additional 15 months full time.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join a multidisciplinary team to develop a wearable medical device for knee joint pain management. The project is funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) and involves collaboration across four faculties at the University of Southampton. The first 24 months will focus on product development; there is also an opportunity to extend, with mutual agreement, for a further 15 months to work on the clinical studies in this project.
You will work on a project that aims to develop an electrotherapy product with embedded pain relief and movement monitoring functions for the management of knee joint pain due to osteoarthritis. You will work closely with other researchers within the project team (e.g. engineers, designer). The main responsibilities include:
- Preparation of research protocols, obtaining ethical approvals, and recruiting end user participants
- Engaging with end users through focus group studies and interviews to understand their needs and to co-design the product
- Testing different prototype iterations and the provision of insights for product optimisation
- Preparation of reports and publications
- Supporting dissemination activities
You will ideally have expertise in end user engagement, qualitative research, and product evaluation. Experience in working with different stakeholders is desirable (e.g. end users, academia, industry, healthcare providers). We welcome candidates with a physiotherapy and/or clinical study background. The successful candidate will need to have a PhD in health or related discipline or equivalent professional qualifications or experience.
This is an opportunity to join an expanding and fast moving area of research at the University of Southampton at the start of a new project. You will have opportunities to develop your skills through collaborating with project collaborators from the industrial and healthcare sectors.
