Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Head of School. The Head of School will lead the School of Government in promoting academic excellence and debate in public policy and public management, along with further developing capability within the public sector. Given the Wellington School of Business and Government's unique position in the capital city of Wellington, directly opposite Parliament, the Head of School of Government is ideally situated to contribute to a strategy of engagement with the public sector, while enhancing the scholarly activities of the School.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The ideal candidate will hold a relevant higher-level academic qualification and have strong credibility through international academic research and engagement. A passion for excellence in teaching and research with a commitment to an outstanding student experience is important for success in this position. You will lead school engagement with tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in research and teaching. You will have the ability to build effective teams in a multi-disciplinary and complex environment, combined with a track record in collegial leadership and a deep commitment to equity and diversity will be essential.

With strong professional and personal credibility, this role will suit an intellectually agile leader with an innovative approach, demonstrated strategic vision, motivation and resilience. The ability to successfully engage diverse stakeholders at a senior level nationally and internationally, is essential to create new opportunities in a constrained economic environment.

The School of Government is one of six schools located in the Wellington School of Business and Government which holds the 'triple crown' (AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA) of international accreditations. We are looking for a Head of School of Government to help us to continue to build our pre-eminence as a Faculty expert in business and government.
