DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY
Research Assistant Professor (PR0002/21-22)
The appointee is expected to work on a collaborative research project of Prof. Yiji Xia and Prof. Zhiling Yu on RNA modifications and gene regulation.
Increasing evidence shows that mRNA capping is a highly regulated process mediated by internal signals and environmental cues. Recent discoveries of non-canonical RNA caps indicate a previously unknown mechanism of gene regulation by RNA capping. The successful candidate will be recruited to work on the molecular mechanism and functions of RNA capping in prokaryotes and/or eukaryotes (Zhang et al, 2019, PNAS; Shao et al, 2020, Nature Protocols; Zhang et al, 2021, PNAS; Hu et al, 2021, PNAS).
Please visit http://biol.hkbu.edu.hk/?page_id=826 and https://scm.hkbu.edu.hk/en/expertise/detail/expertise_11.html for more details of the research project.
Applicants should have a PhD in Biology or related disciplines. They should be highly motivated and have a strong publication record. Research experience in RNA biology, genome-wide sequencing data analysis/bioinformatics, biochemistry/protein chemistry, epigenetic control, cancer biology, or molecular microbiology is preferred.
The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of 3 years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Application Procedure:
Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System (jobs.hkbu.edu.hk). They should request two referees to send in confidential letters of reference, with PR number quoted on the letters, to the Human Resources Office (Email: recruit@hkbu.edu.hk) direct. Those not invited for interview four months after the closing date may consider their applications unsuccessful. All application materials including publication samples and scholarly/creative works will be disposed of after the completion of the recruitment exercise. Details of the University’s Personal Information Collection Statement can be found at http://hro.hkbu.edu.hk/pics.
The University reserves the right not to make an appointment for the post advertised, and the appointment will be made according to the terms and conditions then applicable at the time of offer.
Closing date: 21 May 2022 (or until the position is filled)
