Job Details

The expansion of the Mass Communications suite of programmes at Edinburgh Napier means that our programme team is growing. We are looking to appoint a Lecturer who will be responsible for contributing to our Mass Communications suite, with a teaching/research specialism in advertising and public relations.

About Us
Mass Communications has been running under different degree names at Edinburgh Napier, (including Mass Communications, Advertising And PR), continuously for over 25 years. The degree programme has been an Approved Programme by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations for over 10 years and is also accredited by the Public Relations and Communications Association.  We also deliver our Mass Communications, Advertising and Public Relations partner in Hong Kong with our partner HKUSpace.
Mass Communications sits within the School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI) drawing on a number of different disciplines. You will be based at our Merchiston Campus, located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. To find more information about SACI please click here.

The role
We are looking to appoint an exceptional Lecturer with industry experience and demonstrable recent teaching expertise. You will have an innovative and collaborative approach to teaching and research and be able to demonstrate expertise across mass communications with a specialism in advertising and public relations.

If successful, you will be working with a small and highly dedicated Mass Communications team to develop, design and deliver high-quality, student-centred teaching and learning, which reflects our focus on professional communication, our research expertise and our international outlook.

This will involve teaching, supporting and assessing students, supervising Mass Communications projects and dissertations, contributing to curriculum planning and development, and engaging in research and scholarly activity.

A PhD is desirable, but not essential if you demonstrate an equivalent professional standing.

Who we are looking for
In addition to the role profile (link here), the following criteria are essential:

  • A Master’s level qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Well-networked across the mass communication discipline, especially in your area of expertise.
  • Evidence of a professional profile or academic research profile alongside a commitment to sustained continuous professional/academic development.
  • Experience of and interest in advertising and public relations in an international and/or digital context.
  • Sufficient breadth and depth of experience in specialism to develop high quality teaching/learning and research programmes.

Some travel may be required as part of our transnational education provision.
