Job Description

Undertake a combination of seagoing fieldwork and laboratory work, specifically:

  1. Prepare and deploy baited longlines.
  2. Process catch (live release).
  3. Use acoustic receiver equipment to track fish movements.
  4. Extract DNA and amplify specific mtDNA loci.
  5. Maintain project equipment in good working order.

Minimum Qualification

M.Sc. in marine biology or ecology.

Preferred Qualification

M.Sc. in marine biology or ecology.

Expected Skills/Rank/Experience

  1. Extensive experience in the capture, tagging and live release of large marine animals.
  2. Extensive experience with small watercraft, including an official UAE boat captain's license.
  3. Prior laboratory experience with DNA extraction and PCR.
  4. Experience with GIS software (QGIS).
  5. Experience with database software (FileMaker Pro).
  6. Familiarity with marine-based acoustic tracking technologies.
