The Research Laboratory of Professors Ali Trabolsi, and Serdal Kirmizialtin, in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), seeks to appoint a talented researcher with an excellent record of academic success for a two-year Research Assistant position. The research will focus on a joint project on the development of Covalent Organic Frameworks (COF) for the effective delivery of biomolecules and drugs. Candidates should have a BS or MS in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, or related field, with experience and interest in the application of computational modelling to organic chemistry and drug delivery. An ideal candidate should have a solid background in organic synthesis and characterization, computational chemistry, particularly in the area of molecular dynamics and materials. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge resources in a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment and collaborate with experimental and computational researchers.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required together with the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team. Experience with organic synthesis, molecular modelling, basic computer programming skills, working knowledge of UNIX and shell scripting is highly desired.

Research Project Title: Covalent Organic Frameworks for Insulin Delivery

Research Project Description: The proposed research project aims at synthesizing and modelling organic building blocks for the ultimate preparation of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for the application of insulin and drug delivery.

Responsibilities of the position:

  • Synthesis and Characterization of organic building blocks for porous covalent organic frameworks (COF)
  • Computational modelling of COFs and their interactions with biomolecules and drug

Qualifications

BSc or MSc in chemistry, chemical engineering, or relevant area with experience or interest in computational chemistry and organic chemistry

Organic Synthesis and/or Computational modelling skills In addition to the necessary knowledge of science and chemistry, a researcher must be curious about the natural world and the ability to come up and develop new computational methodologies and experiments. He/she will be required to work and collaborate with other scientists within the groups as well as from across disciplines. The ability to work in a team setting successfully and communicate with others is very important. Laboratory research work experience is an asset.
