Position overview

The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) at the Australian National University (ANU) invites applications for the position of Observatory Manager at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO).

Siding Spring Observatory (SSO) is Australia’s largest optical astronomical observatory and is located in the Warrumbungle mountains of northern New South Wales. It is home to Australia’s largest optical telescope, the 3.9-metre Anglo-Australian Telescope, the ANU 2.3-metre Advanced Technology Telescope, the ANU SkyMapper 1.3-metre telescope, and several other telescopes from national and international organisations.

The Observatory Manager reports to the SSO Director and coordinates the activities of a diverse team of 20 technicians and specialists. The Observatory Manager is responsible for the operational and technical management of the ANU-operated facilities at SSO and for coordination with ANU Facilities & Services on the site infrastructure.

Postgraduate management or technical qualifications with demonstrated high-level management experience at an astronomical observatory is a requirement.
