At TU Dresden, "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, the Institute of Railway Systems and Public Transport seeks to appoint an outstanding candidate for the Chair (W3) of Railway Track Engineering

starting as soon as possible.

Based on the growing importance of railway transport as a sustainable, environmentally friendly and mass transport mode, the chair researches innovative methods for the data-driven life cycle management of modern railway tracks. By making extensive use of possible digital data processing for modelling, analysis and prognosis, the railway system shall be provided a highly available, intelligent and economical railway track.

As the chair holder you (m/f/x) will represent the scientific field of railway infrastructure in teaching and research. You will have a teaching obligation within the master and diploma programs of the “Friedrich List” Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences as well as in the teaching export for the Faculty of Civil Engineering, among others. We expect your participation in academic self-administration and your willingness to teach in English. One of your main tasks will also be to successfully acquire of third-party funding from federal (DFG, BMBF or EU sources, and from industry partners. We put special emphasis on your willingness to cooperate with other chairs of the faculty and other faculties of the TU Dresden and also with non-university research institutions in the vicinity of the TU Dresden, in particular the DRESDEN-concept alliance.

We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated scientist with an international academic track record in the field of railway infrastructure.

We invite applications with a strong profile in at least one of the following areas:

  • Construction, operation and maintenance of railway tracks
  • Design and planning process of railway infrastructure
  • Innovative diagnosis and maintenance methods (predictive maintenance, smart infrastructure)
  • Modelling and simulation of railway track behavior
  • Life cycle management to increase efficiency and availability.

Knowledge in the areas of application of track experiments as well as measurement and test bench technology is desirable. To conduct experimental research, the railway construction laboratory with multifunctional testing equipment is available. Candidates with international teaching and research experience are very welcome. In research, you should be able to prove your ability to carry out academic research by means of an appropriate publication activity. We welcome your application if you hold a university degree in the field of railway construction, civil engineering or related relevant disciplines. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 58 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
