The Academy of Visual Arts (AVA), a division of Hong Kong Baptist University, provides professional creative visual arts undergraduate, postgraduate and research degree programmes embedded in a rich studio culture, committed to professional and academic excellence, and firmly linked to international networks and communities of practice. AVA is committed to nurturing creative and professional talent of international renown and strives to provide the very best in visual arts education, combining studio-based research, critical reflection, and sustainable service to the cultural and creative sectors as well as for the community at large.

We are now looking for a Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor to enrich AVA’s teaching, research and practice in time-based media including – but not limited to – various moving image practices (e.g. digital video, animation, video compositing, video installation) and/or sound. The successful candidate is expected to be well versed in a broad range of practical techniques relevant to the area(s), and to independently operate at a professional level within a fully equipped studio environment. Initially, the primary teaching focus will be on delivering undergraduate courses related to time-based media as well as on supervision of individual student projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Successful candidates will have access to facilities, studios and workshops as well as the broader and expanding research platform at AVA and the University. They will work alongside other staff in the Academy and take an active part in organising and developing studio facilities and student projects, and in coordinating associated programmes (workshops, guest lectures, conferences, exhibitions, screenings, etc.). All AVA staff are expected to be active researchers within their field of expertise and to publish their work in formats/venues as appropriate for their outputs.

Applicants should have at least a master’s degree or ideally have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline
and be able to demonstrate their keen interest in teaching, practice and research by their academic, professional and personal track record. Records of successful grant applications or project funding bids will be considered as an advantage.

The initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and mutual agreement.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application Procedure:

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System (jobs.hkbu.edu.hk) with a portfolio of professional/creative practice, samples of publications, preferably three best ones out of their most recent works, and their most recent teaching evaluation results. They should also request two referees to send in confidential letters of reference, with PR number (stated above) quoted on the letters, to the Human Resources Office (email: recruit@hkbu.edu.hk) direct. Those not being invited for interview 4 months after submission of application may consider their applications unsuccessful. All application materials will be disposed of after completion of the recruitment exercise. Details of the University's Personal Information Collection Statement can be found at http://hro.hkbu.edu.hk/pics.

The University reserves the right not to make an appointment for the post advertised, and the appointment will be made according to the terms and conditions applicable at the time of offer.

Review of applications will start from 27 April 2022 until the position is filled.
