About the Department of Economics

The Department is research active and performs teaching and research in the areas of economics, econometrics and actuarial studies. It provides high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and undertakes high quality research. The Department actively contributes to the community and maintains strong ties to business and government sectors.

About the Role

The Research Fellow will be expected to manage the Experimental Economics Laboratory, conduct their own independent research and teach one subject a year in experimental/behavioural economics. For the management of the Experimental Economics Laboratory, the duties include programming experimental games and surveys, advising researchers on relevant programming choices.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Support the academic staff at the Department of Economics in the conduct of experiments in the Experimental Economics Laboratory
  • Help program experimental games and surveys using software applications designed for interface and game programming (e.g., Z-Tree, o-tree, Qualtrics)
  • Instruct and guide student researchers (Honours and Master’s levels) in the programming of their experiments.

About You

You are a confident communicator with an ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively with a research team. You are highly organised with exceptional time management skills and are a strong team player who shows initiative to working within a large department.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • A PhD (or near completion) in economics.
  • A track record of quality research in the discipline commensurate with opportunity.
  • Knowledge of and experience in programming with at least one programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java, Python).
  • A current and valid Working with Children Check.
