Applications are invited for appointment as Research Officer in School of Public Health (Ref.: 511926), to commence as soon as possible on a two- to three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

Applicants should possess a Master’s degree in virology, with at least 7 years’ work experience in virus research and a good publication track record in field of virology. They must have a Certificate in Dangerous Goods (Class 6.2 and Class 9) Training and WHO laboratory management. They should be competent in handling clinical and animal specimens in BSL2 and BSL2 plus practice, operating manual and automatic nucleic acid extraction platforms, and next generation sequencing. Other virology laboratory skills (TCID50, ELISA test, cloning, cell/virus culture, HA assay, virus neutralization test, etc.) are highly desirable.

The appointee will manage several research teams on influenza viruses, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. He/She will also assist in the maintenance of a P3 laboratory, and contribute to various COVID-19 studies.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
