Job Description:

The Signature Research Programme in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) aims to pioneer the development and discovery of new and more effective methods for the treatment, prevention and control of new and emerging pathogens. The key outcome of the research will be the early identification of new pathogens, out of which new diagnostic tests, treatments and control strategies will be developed.

Our laboratory studies rapidly evolving RNA viruses including influenza virus, coronavirus and parainfluenza virus. This position is for a full-time Research Fellow/ Senior Research Fellow with a background in virology, molecular biology and/or immunology. The Fellow will conduct research to generate novel monoclonal antibodies using animal models and advanced antibody engineering techniques, and test them in combination with antiviral agents/drugs for the prevention and treatment of viral infections both in vitro and in vivo. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organising, conducting, and communicating research studies, and for manuscript preparation. The candidate will also be provided opportunities to develop independent research questions and to obtain grant funding for career progression.

Job Requirements

  • PhD in virology, molecular biology, immunology, or a related biomedical field.
  • A strong background in molecular virology including prior experience with antibody production/engineering, and/or drug efficacy testing in animals.
  • Experience with animal immunization, organ harvest and histopathological preparations (sectioning, staining) is required.
  • Experience with reverse genetics and fitness assays and/or prior work experience in a biosafety level 3 containment laboratory would be an asset.
  • Possess excellent quantitative, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Strong writing and critical thinking skills, as well as good communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work harmoniously in a team and to establish and maintain effective professional peer working relationships.
