We are part of the wider Students & Education Directorate, a collection of wide-ranging professional services in place to support King’s students and their education. As a directorate we manage the student lifecycle from application to graduation and beyond, to ensure a coherent and seamless student experience and effective administrative processes, working closely with King’s faculties to do so. 


About the Role

We are recruiting Employer Relations & Development Advisers to cultivate and develop our engagement with our hundreds of employer partners, playing an important role in enhancing the global employability of our students and graduates and ensuring King’s College London remains a top-tier target institution for the widest range of graduate employers.  

The post holders will be responsible for business development and opportunity provision within:

Experience/knowledge of, or enthusiasm for these specific areas is not essential to conduct the role but would be desirable, and applicants should specify this in their applications.


We strive to build personalised, bespoke and innovative strategies with employers and partners in the UK and internationally understanding each client’s needs, building our labour market intelligence and facilitating remote and physical interventions for them to enhance their brand through opportunities to engage and develop our talent.  

Identifying target employers, they will account manage individual relationships and develop partnerships to support our strategy of embedding employability into programme design and enrichment of the academic curriculum, as well as looking after associated labour market intelligence, knowledge and facilitate engagement in our growing events portfolio.  The role will form a part of the Employer Relations & Development team which sits within Employer Engagement.  


We seek a natural networker, who enjoys building and maintaining relationships with a wide range of contacts across the corporate, public and third sectors.  They will possess relevant work experience in the higher education, recruitment, commercial or marketing field.  Successful candidates will be articulate, flexible and future-focused with strong relationship management skills, constantly seeking to develop innovative new ways to engage, meeting demanding targets for intelligence gathering, analysis of data, provision of vacancies and internships working alongside collaboratively with other members of the department.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post, but we welcome applications from candidates seeking a flexible work pattern. There may be occasional evening or weekend working to support our programme of events.

Key responsibilities

  • Research, create, develop and cultivate relationships with a breath of organisations in the UK and overseas in the designated cluster, and develop innovative practices to engage with these employers, serving their needs in relation to student demands, drawing on careers registration, student engagement and Graduate Outcomes data 
  • Deliver targeted outreach with participants, speakers and alumni to facilitate opportunity development and activities including virtual fairs, skills workshops, masterclasses, panels and associated sponsorship 
  • Instigate and consider opportunities for embedding employability into the curriculum – either in faculty or in supporting academic assessment and meaningful work opportunities – developing students’ knowledge, attributes, skills and experiences 
  • Develop innovative practices to engage employers, constantly upselling King’s, our opportunities and student talent, forming lasting partnerships 
  • Respond to queries in a timely manner, providing relevant information and producing reports and recommendations efficiently and effectively for stakeholders and senior managers 
  • Liaise and collaborate with colleagues across Employer Engagement, the institution, professional bodies and other universities to develop a network of knowledge, contacts and opportunity development, keeping abreast of current and future developments in the graduate labour market 
  • Evaluate employer needs, provide advice and consultancy on recruitment strategies and plans at King’s, identifying bespoke, evidence-based strategies of engagement 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of labour market information and progress utilising our internal careers service management system (CSMS) to track progress and relationship development, allowing colleagues to extract key intelligence as required

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

  • Relevant work experience and/or education: We think a wide range of different work and educational experiences could support you to be successful in this role. Relevant work experience might include work in Graduate Recruitment, Marketing or Careers Services. Relevant educational experiences might include higher education in a related discipline, professional qualifications or other training 
  • Proven experience of developing new and existing external partnerships effectively to broaden networks 
  • Ability to successfully negotiate and influence a range of stakeholders, marketing and developing services to grow and broaden opportunities at every opportunity 
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly in a multi-faceted environment with a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority 
  • Ability to follow processes, policies and agreements to provide maximum effectiveness in delivery of relationship management and targets 
  • Strong research and analytical skills, supporting operational delivery of the portfolio, constructing reports and data sets as required 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively in writing, and orally 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UK graduate labour market, needs of employers and the current graduate employability landscape 
  • Strong digital capabilities, including usage of business communication platforms, CRM and e-learning tools 
  • Proven experience of innovation and creativity when coming forward with new ideas and developing and reviewing new processes or initiatives 

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge and understanding of the higher education landscape, including the impact of national policy issues on work-based learning, experiential and student employability
