Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for the position of Research Assistant in “Inter-disciplinary nanotechnology application in cancer therapeutics and biomedical application”. Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA)’s role will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to ensure the successful completion of the research. Mainly, the work station will be based at the Translational Longevity Research Programme at the Center for Healthy Longevity, Center for Life Sciences, NUS. This project is funded by the National Medical Research Council of Singapore and GAP grant, which involves extensive collaborations with clinicians from the National University Hospital Singapore, UK’s based industrial partner and regional large animal trial collaborator (Malaysia). Occasional travels can be expected depending on pandemic situation. Additionally, the role will provide support to all the collaborations of PI.

Appointments will be made on a one year contract basis with the possibility of extension depending on performance.

The RA will be mentored by the PI for an all-rounder development including but not limited to scientific research, translation market evaluation and industry engagement (to be co-mentored by external industry consultant). This shapes the candidate to address multi-roles and is important in future career development. Experience is not critical as all methods will be taught, rather positivity and determination under all circumstances will be highly attractive advantage.

The PI has good track records of all rounder successful alumni mentees at prestigious universities locally and abroad (USA) demonstrated by high impact publications (IF>10) and soft skills development (industrial internships).

Research assistant is expected to conduct administrative, in vitro and in vivo cancer research related work including but not limited to:

Administrative roles

  1. Oversee the general management of the project and form the core translational team of PI. 
  2. Provide administrative and secretarial support to the project, such as organizing meetings and communication with other members of the research team locally and internationally; Processing of documentations of regulatory and administrative responsibilities (admin, and procurement) to PI.
  3. Assist in the market translation study of the project with the co-guidance of our external market consultant.
  4. Assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the PI.

Research roles

  1. Cellular assays (flow cytometry, microscopy imaging, cell culture, treatment of cancer cell line, qrt-PCR, western blot).
  2. Primary cancer cells (growing of patients derived primary tumour in vitro).
  3. Generation and maintenance of orthotopic xenograft primary cancer model in mice.

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Have at least a diploma or first degree with good results (second upper).
  2. be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature, attention to detail; and
  3. Wet lab research experience is an added advantage but not compulsory, as all the procedures will be taught by the principal investigator.
  4. Additional working experience in the industry is highly valued as well.

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
