Research Assistant - Engineer in Multimedia Search

Job description

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen’s University Belfast, is seeking a Research Engineer in Multimedia Search to be part of our exciting project - Multimodal Video Search by Examples (MVSE).

This project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) that brings together investigators from Queen’s University Belfast, Ulster University, University of Surrey, University of Cambridge and the BBC. The aim is to develop new technology which will enable users to search relevant content accurately and efficiently in large multimedia archives such as BBC Archives and You tube. The project will use AI to interrogate aspects of the multimedia content.

The successful candidate will work closely with project partners to understand the current multimedia search technologies as well as the needs for new search technologies. You will also work closely with investigators and researchers in the project consortium and will contribute to the software development of novel multimedia search technologies. You will lead on integrating these different software programs into a web-based demonstrator of the project.

This role offers substantial career development with opportunities for experimentation and publishing research in the field of Artificial Intelligence. You will also have the opportunity to develop valuable inter-personal skills while working with a wide variety of people in this multi-partner project consortium.

This post is available on a fixed term contract until 31 March 2024.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:

  • Degree or equivalent in computer science or a closely related discipline.
  • Relevant experience to include:
    • Demonstrable programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C++ or Java.
    • Demonstrable Web development experience.
    • Demonstrable practical experience in software delivery using Docker technologies.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
