About the position 

We have a vacancy for a Postdoc position in Molecular Imprinting Polymer (MIP) and Nanomaterials for Sensing Applications at the department of manufacturing and civil engineering at NTNU. The Postdoc candidate will design and synthesis MIPs for selective sensing of different Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) gases. The candidate will also develop 2D transduction nanomaterials using e.g., MXene or graphene, including their or nanohybrids.

The position is part of a research project financed by the Research Council of Norway. The successful Postdoc candidate will work on designing and synthesizing different MIPs and 2D nanomaterials, and will work closely with other researchers who are designing electrical circuit of the sensing devices.    

The candidate will report to the Head of department.

Duties of the position

  • Design and synthesis of MIPs for selective sensing of different VOC gases.    
  • Develop/synthesis of 2D transduction nanomaterials using e.g., MXene or graphene, including their or nanohybrids.
  • Deposition of the MIPs and transduction 2D nanomaterials on sensor surfaces (which are hydrophobic).

Required selection criteria

  • PhD in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Material Science, or related field.
  • Experience with design and synthesis of MIP.
  • Experience with 2D nanomaterials for sensing applications.
  • Hand-on lab experience on different deposition techniques.

You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian PhD 

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant

  • Good publication record in MIPs and 2D nanomaterials for sensing applications.
  • Experience in research project works.
  • Good written and oral English proficiency.
  • Knowledge and experience in sensors and sensor systems.

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 2 years but can be extended further depending on the achieved results/performance. Appointment to a Postdoctoral position requires the candidate holds a PhD degree or have already submitted the PhD thesis for evaluation (conditioned the candidate successfully defends his/her PhD thesis within 5 months). Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment, you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

The position is subject to external funding. 

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
