About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health, the largest division of the university, is dedicated to attracting and developing the brightest minds in health education and research to make and shape the future of health. Working and teaching across all health disciplines including Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, Medical Sciences and Public Health, we have close to 13,000 students enrolled in our courses, and our teaching and research activities are supported by over 2,200 academic and professional staff as well as more than 3,800 affiliated academics.

Sydney Dental School is ranked amongst the top dental schools globally and is one of the largest dental schools in Australia. It is housed within the Sydney Dental Hospital at Surry Hills and the Westmead Centre for Oral Health at Westmead Hospital with outreach across NSW.

The role of Lecturer will make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within our faculty, with a focus on coaching and developing students in the provision of best-practice patient care within a simulated or real clinical setting. The role is expected to dedicate the majority of their contribution to education (up to 70%-80% by mutual agreement - of their academic workload allocation).

About you

  • a dental or oral health therapy qualification that is registrable with the Dental Board of Australia, AHPRA
  • significant experience working in a clinical setting and proven ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform pedagogical practice (usually more than 3 years post-graduation experience)
  • experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, or a public health dental clinic as evidenced by student coaching and skills development
  • demonstrated success in designing implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives with a clinical focus
  • network of relationships with key academic, clinical and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • proven capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate students in the provision of outstanding patient care
  • a collegiate, team-oriented nature and experience of working as part of a team
  • post graduate qualifications in tertiary teaching or adult education
  • interest in dental/oral health research

Term and Remuneration

The successful candidate will be offered a Continuing position on a full-time basis.

For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident. Australian Temporary Residents may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
