About the Department of Medical Education

The Department of Medical Education was established as a department within the Melbourne Medical School in 2015.  It has responsibility for the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course, research in medical education and a range of professional development postgraduate and non-award programs.

About the Role

The Cancer Education Research Fellow is responsible for undertaking and advancing cancer education research in the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre and the University of Melbourne.

This is a part-time opportunity (0.5 - 0.6 FTE) in a 12 month fixed-term role. The successful applicant will produce novel research in a topic area relevant to cancer educational research that will contribute to the goals of the VCCC Alliance and the Department of Medical Education (DME), University of Melbourne. There will be some flexibility to the research project, built around the educational interests and research expertise of the candidate, and you may also supervise education research student(s) in the Master of Cancer Sciences.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Support the practice of cancer education research by contributing expertise
  • Conduct research independently and in collaboration with others, including colleagues in the Department of Medical Education, University of Melbourne and VCCC Alliance education team
  • Participate in DME and VCCC Alliance meetings, including the DME Research and Research Training Committee and other relevant committees
  • Contribute toward teaching and/or educational development

About You

You will be an enthusiastic early to mid-career clinician or researcher, able to demonstrate a research track record in a relevant area. Your outstanding organisation skills will allow you to prioritise your own day to day workload, meet competing deadlines and produce high quality work. You will also be confident in effectively delivering presentations and building strong, collaborative relationships with a range of people at all levels.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Relevant qualifications to work in your discipline (or evidence of progress towards this with expected completion within 12 months) e.g.
  • Medical professionals – Specialty Medical Fellowship
  • Nursing/Allied Health professionals – Relevant degree(s) and work experience
  • Research – Research higher degree
  • Have completed (or be within 12 months of completing) the vocational training for your relevant discipline.
  • An interest in sub-specialising in cancer education.
