About the opportunity

The School of Environment and Science is seeking to appoint a lecturer in the field of quantitative ecology, who has experience in ecological modelling. As a lecturer within the School, you will be expected to support teaching in the Environment and Marine discipline, with an emphasis on courses in quantitative ecology and marine science, and to carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the discipline. In particular, the Lecturer will conduct research activities within the Australian Rivers Institute and the Centre for Coastal and Marine Research related to ongoing projects concerning the development and testing of models of ecosystem change using ocean ecological datasets. The Lecturer will also be expected to carry out independent and/or team research and supervise postgraduate and undergraduate research students.

This a fixed term (4 years), full time, position based at the Nathan campus and it is expected that the successful candidate will be available to attend campus in person as a normal requirement of the role. Further, you may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises, which the University currently has or may subsequently acquire or at any premises at which it may from time to time provide services.

About you

To be successful within this role, you will possess a PhD in quantitative ecology, preferably with a specialisation in ecological modelling. A focus on marine ecosystems is preferable but not compulsory. Skills in GIS and/or remote sensing would also be advantageous.

You will have the ability to convene and contribute to quantitative ecological and marine science courses, have demonstrated excellence in teaching at the tertiary education level, and will have proven skills in the administration of university courses. You will also have the ability to contribute to research projects through the use of ecosystem models to inform ocean management.

Salary range

Base Salary $98,174 - $116,584 (pro-rated) per annum. Salary package including 17% employer superannuation $114,863 - $136,404 (pro-rated) per annum.
