Working within the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering, you will provide expertise in an area of Mechanical Engineering to further enhance research, teaching and entrepreneurial activities. This will include designing, developing and delivering high-quality teaching activities, undertaking individual and joint research to produce high-quality academic outputs, and participating in external activity to generate income and promote the subject.

The Department has particular strengths in four core research areas: Renewable Energy Systems, Smart Materials & Surfaces, Transport and Aerospace Engineering and Extreme Environment Engineering, with financial support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), The Royal Society, Innovate UK, and European Union.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with cross-disciplinary strengths in any of the following areas:

  • Materials, including material mechanics, smart materials and composites.
  • Transport and Aerospace Engineering, including fluid dynamics, aerodynamics and green and intelligent transport.
  • Renewable Energy and Sustainable Engineering including battery technologies, photovoltaics and energy storage and conversion systems.
  • Extreme Environment Engineering.

However, we will consider high-quality applications in any relevant area.

You must hold a first degree and be qualified to Doctoral level in a relevant discipline and have subject expertise in Mechanical Engineering with specialist knowledge gained through research activity, professional practice or consultancy. Proven ability to deliver high-quality research-led teaching within an appropriate field and in particular a strong publication profile are essential.
