Job description
This post sits within the Behavioural Science team in the Cancer Prevention Group at KCL. The post-holder will join a growing group of interdisciplinary population health researchers working on cancer prevention, screening and early diagnosis.  
The post-doctoral research fellow will work on an exciting project exploring the acceptability of using AI in breast screening. Working closely with Dr Jo Waller and colleagues in KiTEC, the postholder will lead the day-to-day running of two projects. The first is a qualitative focus group study exploring attitudes towards the use of AI in the reading of breast screening mammograms. The second is a large population-based survey aimed at understanding predictors of acceptability, with a focus on potential social inequalities.
The role will involve developing protocols, applying for ethical approval, running focus groups, analysing quantitative and qualitative data, writing reports and peer-reviewed publications and liaising with a range of academic and non-academic stakeholders. 
The Cancer Prevention Group is led by Professor Peter Sasieni, and currently includes some 50 grant-funded researchers. It is divided into five research sub-teams: clinical trials, statistics, experimental epidemiology, observational epidemiology and behavioural science. Group members have substantial expertise in epidemiology, clinical studies, health psychology, use of routine registries and databases, as well as related statistical methodologies. Members of the group collaborate in cancer screening research internationally.
This post sits within the Behavioural Science sub-team, led by Dr Jo Waller.  
This post will be offered on an fixed-term contract for 30 months

Skills, knowledge, and experience 
Essential criteria  

1.       Undergraduate degree in Psychology or a related discipline (2:1 or 1st) 
2.       PhD in health psychology or a related discipline 
3.       Proven track record of running research studies in behavioural science (quantitative and qualitative) including applying for relevant approvals 
4.       Academic expertise relevant to at least one aspect of the project (e.g. in attitudes to AI, cancer screening, acceptability of interventions, public attitudes) 
5.       Experience of writing for publication 
6.       Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
7.       Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards in research 
8.       Ability to manage time, prioritise workload and work to deadlines 
9.       Excellent attention to detail 
10.   Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
Desirable criteria
1.       Knowledge of the literature on attitudes to artificial intelligence (AI) 
2.       Understanding of the principles of cancer screening 
* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
