President (m/f/x)

starting April 1, 2023.

The University of Regensburg was founded in 1962 as a "full university" (Volluniversität) with a comprehensive range of teaching and research programs. It currently has more than 21,000 students and a professional staff of approximately 4,000, including 350 professors.

The University Council is searching for a candidate with outstanding leadership experience, organizational skills, and academic experience who can lead the university on the basis of the University Development Plan (https://go.ur.de/HEP-2025) into the future. The successful candidate should have experience in higher education policy and administration, and will be working as part of a leadership team in an effort to continually further the university's development, sharpen its profile, and strengthen its competitive
position both nationally and internationally. We expect the person selected to be an effective and convincing communicator and have the ability to facilitate cooperation both internally and externally.

The President is elected by the University Council and appointed by the Bavarian State Minister for Science and the Arts. The term of office is six years.

Eligible candidates for the position as President must either currently hold a professorship at the university or after having completed a university degree, have had many years of service in leadership positions in academia, art, law, business, or public administration.

The duties, powers, and legal status of the President are derived from Art. 21 of the Bavarian University Law (Bayerisches Hochschulgesetz).
