Job Description

The Research Assistant will be involved in the conduct of human subject research in metabolism and diabetes mellitus. These studies involve measurements of beta-cell function, insulin resistance, resting energy expenditure, muscle, and fat biopsies. He/she will also assist in procedures such as anthropometric measurements, the administration of questionnaires and data entry. He/she will also be involved in performing laboratory assays and maintaining samples inventory in the laboratory. He/she will be managing Metabolic Phenotyping Unit on daily operations.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties (100%)

  1. Intermediaries to perform clinical procedures, plan, organize and co-ordinate research studies
  2. Advise users on design of consent forms, case report forms and protocols for multiple projects
  3. Work with investigators to develop clinical interventions, and thereafter provide interventions as aservice for clinical studies
  4. Prepare reports for ethics board, funding organisations and other agencies.
  5. Managing IRB renewal, amendment, and study report and prepare report for audit review
  6. Supervise undergraduate students working on the research project
  7. This is a 1-year contract position, with a possibility for renewal based on performance.

Qualifications

Qualification:

  • Possess at least a degree in biomedical science discipline (relevant)
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge and skills in supporting various research activities;
  • Be able to work independently and in a team, have an investigative nature and attention to detail;

Experience:

  • Relevant clinical and laboratory experience will be advantageous
  • Relevant research experience will be advantageous

Skills:

  • Self-driven, independent mature worker, who is well-organized and has the ability to multitask.
  • Possess good interpersonal skills and be willing to travel between the University and external studysites as part of his/ her work.
  • Independent mature worker who is well-organized and multitask
  • Possess good written and spoken communication skills
  • Able to communicate effectively with study subjects and other members of the study team
