DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED BIOLOGY AND CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology is a multi-disciplinary department in PolyU with diversified specialties in biology, biotechnology, chemistry, biochemistry, nutrition and food science. The Department’s research focus is in the interdisciplinary areas of chemistry, biology, nutrition and food science. There are about 56 faculty members in the Department. Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/abct/ for more information about the Department.

To further extend PolyU’s mission of positive societal impact, the University has recently established PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR), which is a central research platform to facilitate interdisciplinary research, transfer technologies to stakeholders, inspire innovations across disciplines, and collaborate with top institutions in the world. At present, PAIR has ten Research Institutes and five Research Centres and works closely with affiliated research units, including the State Key Laboratories and the Hong Kong Branches of Chinese National Engineering Research Centres. Please visit the website at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/pair/ for more information about PAIR.

The appointee will conduct interdisciplinary research particularly in AIoT-based Food Authentication under both Research Institute for Future Food (RiFood) and Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Things (RIAIoT).  For more information about RiFood and RIAIoT, please visit their websites at https://www.polyu.edu.hk/rifood/ and https://www.polyu.edu.hk/riaiot/ accordingly.

Research Assistant Professor in AIoT-based Food Authentication (Ref. 22011826)

The appointee will be required to (a) conduct interdisciplinary research in AIoT-based Food Authentication under both RiFood and RIAIoT as the main duty, and actively pursue external research grants as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator; (b) provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level; (c) engage in publicity activities that increase visibility of RiFood, RIAIoT and PolyU; and (d) provide innovative solutions and technological support to the local and international communities on food-related issues.

Applicants should (a) have a doctoral degree in Food/Computer Science or related disciplines; (b) have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching; (c) be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and (d) be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for three years initially, with possibility of extension for another three years.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
