About the position 

The Department of Economics is hiring a Ph.D. candidate in applied economics for a 2.5-year position as postdoctoral fellow at NTNU. The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and is partnered with Norges Bank, Arizona State University, University of Zurich, and Stockholm School of Economics.

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position aimed to produce top publications in economic journals. You will report to the project manager.

Duties of the position

  • Maintain economic database
  • Perform empirical economic research using econometric methods
  • Write research papers and reports

Required selection criteria

  • You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian Ph.D. 
  • You must have a professionally relevant background in applied economics
  • You must have experience working with microdata and statistical software such as Stata or R. Extensive knowledge of Python, Julia, Matlab, or SAS is also useful.
  • One or two research papers demonstrating skills in applied economics
  • Good written and oral English language skills

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as Ph.D., post-doctor and research assistant  

Preferred selection criteria

  • Interest in labor market research, household finance or public economics
  • Develop and estimate structural economic models
  • An understanding of econometric challenges faced by public and labor market researchers

Salary and conditions

As a Postdoctoral Fellow (code 1352) you are normally paid from gross NOK 553 500 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. 

The period of employment is 2.5 years.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment, you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work. 

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
