Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of multi-disciplinary scientists and help understand how lung epithelial cells influence responses to inflammatory insults. The project will study a key receptor we have identified as a mediator of inflammatory lung diseases and lung cancer progression and dissect the signalling mechanisms by which this receptor controls epithelial homeostasis. The study will use a range of state-of-the-art microscopy techniques, molecular biology, and biochemical approaches in vitro and in vivo to understand these mechanisms and identify potential therapeutic targets for treatment of lung inflammatory disease and cancer. Access to excellent training and world class facilities will be provided, with opportunities to engage with Industry and clinical teams to drive translation of findings to a clinical setting.

This post will be offered on  a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2025.
This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Analyzing roles for key adhesion receptors in controlling epithelial cell homeostasis, response to inflammatory cues and disease progression both in vitro and in vivo
  • Developing new approaches to study lung epithelial and cancer cell signalling events in live cells and tissues
  • Defining novel molecular targets driving inflammatory lung disease and cancer
  • Working both independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team
  • Presenting work at national and international meetings
  • Writing papers and supervising other team members

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.
