Job description
The School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (CCE) at Queen’s University Belfast, is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant, to work as part of a multidisciplinary high impact research project team, which involves close collaboration with experimentalists from Almac and Queen’s.
This research forms part of the Invest Northern Ireland-funded INSIGHT (IN Silico Informed metaGenomic Harvesting Technology) project which is an exciting academia-industry collaboration between Queen’s University and Almac Sciences Ltd.
The successful candidate will apply computational chemistry approaches to evaluate the properties of the enzymes, and developing/ applying machine learning algorithms to speed up the discovery of novel enzymes.
You will be based primarily at the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Queen’s University, although you will also be expected to spend some time at the Almac Sciences Ltd site in Craigavon, Northern Ireland.

The successful candidate must have and your CV/Cover letter should clearly demonstrate you have:
- An Honours degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering or a closely related area.
- At least 1 years’ relevant experience in MD simulations and QM calculations of proteins, or applications of machine learning in one or both of the following areas:
- Chemical reactivities
- Protein function prediction
- Evidence of HPC experience/application.
- Demonstrable evidence of python programming skills.
- Sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within own area.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
