Applications are invited for a permanent post in Southampton Law School at the level of Lecturer (level 5).

As a Law School, we are committed to high-quality legal education and scholarship. To that end, we intend to strengthen our research and teaching across a number of areas of the curriculum. For the current position, we would welcome applications from candidates with an interest in any of the following areas: Insurance Law, Marine Insurance, Carriage of Goods by Sea, Enforcement of Maritime Claims, and Maritime Arbitration. The ability of the candidate to teach in the areas of Ship Finance and Ship Sale/Purchase; and the contribution to the development of the Online Distance Learning for the LLM programme of the School, will be an advantage for this position. The successful applicant will be expected to join the Institute of Maritime Law and participate in its growing research, enterprise, and professional training activities. 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Law or equivalent professional qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to make an all-around contribution to education and research delivery in the School. You will be expected to have a research profile including published work commensurate with your career stage.  You will be committed to high-quality research and to building a vibrant student experience and community. Visible and collegiate, you will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the School’s activities including student recruitment and outreach.

Research in the Law School currently clusters around a number of research centres including those for Private and Commercial Law (PCL); Maritime Law (IML); Law, Policy and Society (CLPS); Health Ethics and Law (HEAL); Law and Technology; and the Stefan Cross Centre for Women, Equality and Law. Colleagues are also involved in individual and collaborative scholarship in numerous other fields, often inter-disciplinary.
