About us

We are a great, modern university, in a great global city, here to make an impact on Manchester, our nation and beyond. Our campus is designed around the student experience, providing high quality teaching in a friendly and supportive environment, with some of the best learning facilities in the UK. Our Student Services Department is is responsible for delivering high-quality, student-focused support services that enable our students to achieve their full academic potential and career ambitions. We place students at the heart of what we do and ensure they have timely access to a range of professional support services including inclusion and disability, wellbeing, counselling and mental health services, student hubs, MMU Sport, chaplaincy and so much more. We also offer fantastic opportunities for both academics and those in support roles.

About the role

Join us, and you could soon be providing leadership across a range of Student Service activities, priorities, processes and functions within the department and providing senior management support to the Director of Student Services. On any given day you might be focussing on service delivery and developing business processes and systems, setting and monitoring service standards or leading research to drive service improvement and inform future service design and delivery. We’ll also look to you to develop a range of activities, resources and engagement opportunities to raise awareness of student support services, as well as an innovative student voice strategy that places students at the heart of the design of services and meets their needs.

Leading the development of an innovative Student Engagement strategy that utilises a broad range of resources to improve student attendance, retention and progression will be important too. And, when it comes to representing us at meetings, groups, bodies and conferences to influence the strategic agenda on Student Service provision, again, we’ll count on you.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need a good understanding of the issues and context that the UK higher education operates in, plus sector leading Student Engagement and Student Voice strategies and Student Service practice. You’ll also need to be familiar with safeguarding and child protection within a HE setting and have an appreciation of students’ needs and expectations. Excellent knowledge of systems and data management, including digital platforms and how digital technology can enhance service delivery, is important too, as are strong research and analytical skills.

Proven experience of team leadership, change management and motivating others is also required, as are highly developed influencing and networking skills and the ability to deliver engaging content to a diverse range of audiences. Well-organised, with a professional and positive approach to responding creatively to change, planning ahead, thinking strategically and setting standards at a sufficiently high level to achieve operational objectives also comes naturally to you.
