About the opportunity

The Research Manager provides critical technical and operational support to the Director, Professor Sharon Naismith, and the broader clinical research team within the Healthy Brain Ageing Program, Brain and Mind Centre. to support the program's research activities and clinical trial requirements.

The Research Manager will have sophisticated research expertise and experience in clinical research including ethics, relevant regulatory and governance requirements, clinical trials governance processes, contracting (i.e., Research Collaboration Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements), databasing, stakeholder management and project management (including budgets, timelines, and milestones).

The Research Manager will be required to liaise with key stakeholders, both internal to the University as well as with national and international collaborators. In addition to the core activities listed above, they may also be required to contribute to administrative components of preparing/submitting scientific manuscripts for academic publication, and/or research grant applications, as needed. The role is also expected to support and contribute to the program's overarching goals of research translation and dissemination, as well as policy reform and potential commercial outcomes from research.

Experience in the management of clinical activities including clinical assessments, biofluids or biobanking, and/or neuroimaging according to established SOPs is desirable to ensure optimized data quality and clinical research practice.

  • a postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., clinical sciences, epidemiology, public health, biostatistics) and proven experience in managing clinical trials and contracts
  • experience in managing staff and demonstrated capacity to supervise the conduct of research studies, including clinical trials. Sound leadership abilities, including conflict resolution and decision-making skills
  • a strong service orientation with proven ability to build successful working relationships with a variety of people, both internal and external, and to deliver on commitments made
  • experience in project management and engagement with diverse stakeholders (e.g., students, professional staff, health professionals, academics, and representatives from industry)
  • good knowledge of data privacy and security issues and the ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality when dealing with sensitive data or reports with restricted access
  • extensive expertise and experience in managing research ethics, regulatory and governance requirements
  • high-level organisational and time management skills with demonstrated expertise in managing input from multiple stakeholders
  • experience working in clinical research environments
  • extensive experience in budget management, reporting and contract development.
