Starting Salary is £44,283 pro-rata, per annum inclusive of London Allowance. This is the expected starting salary for this post however appointment at a higher point may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the role.

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Global Health for the new Department of Health Studies across a highly interdisciplinary suite of postgraduate courses – MA Global Health: Society, Culture and Behaviour, the MSc Global Health: Human Health and the Environment

Royal Holloway is establishing an exciting new Department of Health Studies and are building up a team to deliver the planned courses. You will be joining an already established small interdisciplinary team of health professionals in both human and environmental health who are highly experienced academics and researchers. You will also have the opportunity to grow your networks through our global advisory board and through highly established research centres through the School of Life Sciences and the Environment. 

The candidate will have a strong academic background in the field of Public/Global Health, with particular reference to the field of Planetary Health with a strong focus on the environmental determinants of health (socioecological and ecological). They will have an impressive portfolio of past teaching experience, including of fieldwork techniques, and will be comfortable teaching statistical and quantitative health research methods including frequency of outcomes; associations and impact; epidemiological study design; sampling methods and statistical analysis (including t-tests, ANOVA, Chi-squared test, Pearson’s correlation, p-values); and writing surveys. Topic matter contained in the courses which the candidate would be expected to cover includes health metrics and evaluation; population demographics and the global burden of disease; interrogation of environmental quality databases (e.g. WHO Air Quality database; Lancet Climate Countdown) with an ability to relate these to human health outcomes; and evaluation of health indicators in the Sustainable Development Goals. 

The courses are closely aligned with the Planetary Health Alliance Education Framework (https://www.planetaryhealthalliance.org/education-framework), with which the candidate will be expected to be familiar. The candidate will also be required to module lead and support students in their dissertations.
