Want to participate to the outstanding new area of agro-genomics ? To put into the practice how the genetic diversity and genome-assisted breeding in crops contribute to provide healthy and high quality food in a sustainable way to humankind? Strong in bioinformatics and interested in working with very large datasets ?

There is a unique opportunity to do cool, cutting-edge plant agro-genomic research in Russia !

Who we are

The international Digital Agriculture Laboratory at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technologies – Skoltech – works with industry and academics to foster innovation and agro-industrial development. We develop high-level, cutting-edge, basic research programs, towards quick delivering of improved plant varieties or animal breeds; and some digital agriculture solutions.

Skoltech is a new international English-speaking STEM university in Moscow, Russia. In just 10 years, we united dozens of researchers and globally renowned professors, built a stunning campus, set up world-class labs and made it to the top 100 young universities in the Nature Index.

About This Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated and talented Postdoc that is eager to work on cutting-edge research projects within our young and international team. The applicant will contribute to multidisciplinary projects in direct cooperation with plant geneticists and genomicists, plant breeders and molecular biologists, and support teams, in a frame of national and international cooperation with public institutes and companies.

More specifically, you will be involved in an international collaborative EU project aiming to promote the use of Vicia spp crop in agricultural system. You will discover genetic diversity using NGS data and establish population genomics of two Vicia species. You will also participate to set-up pipelines to analyze and organize genomic diversity data (whole genome resequencing or other methods, SNP array) for other plant genomes (soybean, potatoes, etc…). You will participate to the genome sequence project for one industrial crop. You may find opportunities to undergo GWAS and Genomic Prediction for some major adaptation and agronomic traits.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics or a related discipline, or in Biological Science in a relevant field of Molecular Breeding or Quantitative Genetics, or Statistical Genetics.
  • Expertise in bash and pipelines from raw sequencing data to VCF files, and expertise in statistical software (R, Python, etc.).
  • Fluent in written and oral English language is essential.

In addition, applicants with one or more of the following types of experience will be preferred:

  • Possibly expertise in other types of multi-omics data (DNA methylation, RNA sequencing, metabolomics, proteomics)
  • Some knowledge with statistical tools and methods involved in plant modern genetics are an asset. If not, the lab will provide detailed and thorough training in this field

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term (three year position, with one year of probation). This appointment will be made at either Junior Research Scientist, Research Scientist or Leading Research Scientist depending on experience.
