NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

Research Fellow, Lloyd's Register Foundation Institute for the Public Understanding Risk

Job Description

The LRF Institute for the Public Understanding of Risk (IPUR) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is recruiting a full-time Post-doctoral/Research Fellow.

IPUR is a university-level research institute of the National University of Singapore established in 2017 to work on risk perceptions and communication. We work on a range of domains including environment and climate, health and lifestyle, and new and established technologies through a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together the social sciences, humanities, science and engineering. IPUR is the first institute of its kind in Asia to engage in research, education and outreach in support of our mission to help people take better decisions in the face of risk.

We are looking for an economist to join a multi-disciplinary team carrying out research projects on public risk perceptions and communications as Research Fellow/post-doctoral fellow. The successful applicant will work under the Lead Scientist (Environment and Climate).

The researcher will be eligible to apply for internal grants to support their research. The successful candidate will also be involved in raising funding for future research with the support of IPUR. The employment contract will be up to 3-years and may be renewed.

The researcher will help to develop and deliver IPUR’s environment and climate research programme addressing one or several of the following themes: public and expert perceptions of environment, climate and everyday risks; risk know-how in communities across Asia; understanding and communicating climate-related and environmental risks.

Applicants should be keen to engage with policy-makers and scholarly communities in Asia and around the world, producing and communicating work that has an impact on the important questions and problems that confront Asia and the contemporary world. The successful candidate will work closely with IPUR’s dedicated media team to augment and extend the reach of research to policymakers and the general public through multiple channels.
