Applications are invited for a Teaching Fellow in Organic Chemistry (Temporary 15 month post specified purpose) within the UCD School of Chemistry

The School of Chemistry at University College Dublin wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow in the area of Organic Chemistry with a starting date of Feb. 2021, or as soon as possible. This is a temporary, specified-purpose appointment of approximately 15 months duration, with a focus on teaching. The UCD School of Chemistry has a long-established track record in education, research, and innovation.

Our 26 academic staff have expertise in a wide range of fields of Chemistry, as well as in Chemistry Education, and they supervise approximately 100 PhD students and 20 postdocs.

The School contributes four programmes (Chemistry, Chemistry with Biophysical Chemistry, Chemistry with Environmental and Sustainable Chemistry, and Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology) to the menu of science-based undergraduate degrees offered at UCD. Entry to the UCD Science programmes is highly competitive and it attracts very talented students from Ireland and abroad. In addition, we contribute service courses to several other Schools, and we offer postgraduate-level courses to our taught Masters programmes and to our structured PhD programmes.

The School is strongly committed to high quality education and encourages the use of innovative, evidence-based approaches to Teaching and Learning that take full advantage of our "active learning" spaces and world-class undergraduate laboratories.

The Teaching Fellow will be expected to teach on the BSc and MSc/PhD programmes provided by the School, and to undertake related assessment and administrative duties.

The candidate will have an opportunity to become involved in research by supervising final year and/or taught masters research projects, in cooperation with existing research groups.

The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of organic chemistry and evidence of effectively teaching topics in general and/or organic chemistry at undergraduate level, and will have the ability to undertake administrative and other appropriate duties on behalf of the School and the University.

Salary range: €37,000 - €41,000 per annum

An appointment will be made on the above range, and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
