Manchester Metropolitan University hosts around 3,000 international students, has over 300,000 alumni, and has successful partnerships and research collaborations around the World. Critical to this is the growing international appeal of programmes in our Faculty of Business & Law. This is driven by our Business School’s triple accreditation (AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS), our inclusion on the QS Business Masters Rankings, and research of recognised international excellence in the business and law subject areas.

To match the Faculty’s expanding international reach and future ambitions we are looking to appoint a Head of International to join our Faculty Executive team. This is a senior academic role, and you will work closely with the Faculty’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellors to continue to deliver and evolve our successful international strategy. You will be highly respected in your academic field, and will possess a strong global outlook with experience of developing international partnerships that deliver value.

The Role:

Reporting to the Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellor and working closely with the University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for International and other senior University colleagues, you will continue to shape and implement our Faculty international strategy. This aims to significantly increase the diversity of our on-campus student population, build international partnerships for transnational education and research, further develop the international experiences of our staff and students, and to enhance our overall global presence. Experience of working in international contexts with a wide range of academic clients and stakeholders will be essential in achieving this.

Ideal Candidate:

You will be an experienced academic - ideally at Professorial or Reader level, with a strong research and/or education track record in the business or law discipline, and we would consider it important for you continue to pursue your own academic interests and expertise in this respect. Personally, you will bring a positive, inclusive and collegial leadership style coupled with strong strategic vision: this will require an ability to scan the international higher education horizon and to offer innovative strategic responses. You will need credibility and the ability to foster fruitful relationships; both internally, with university decision-makers, Faculty colleagues and our International Office and, externally, with international networks and partnerships. Much of this will rest on your outstanding communication and negotiation skills.

This is a 4-year rotational role, with the opportunity to revert to an academic position aligned to one of the Faculty’s areas of strength at the end of this period, or to continue in the role, depending on the Faculty’s needs.
