The WorldPop research programme, based at the University of Southampton, is an award winning, multi-sectoral team of researchers, technicians and project specialists working on producing data on population distributions and characteristics at high spatial resolution. WorldPop has a diverse portfolio of projects, including large multi-million-pound collaborative projects with partner organisations, such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Gavi Vaccine Alliances, Flowminder Foundation, UN agencies, commercial data providers and other international development organisations.

We are seeking to recruit a Finance Manager to provide effective financial management to WorldPop’s programme activities. The post holder will be expected to oversee the WorldPop Group’s research and enterprise finances, seeking to provide pre and post-award financial advice, guidance and management information. The post holder will work closely with the Finance Research Hub and Faculty Finance Team to support the process for the approval of costings and contracts and acting as the focal point of contact for all research grants, enterprise contracts and international project partners. The post holder will also work with the WorldPop Director on developing a financial sustainability plan for WorldPop to help the group achieve its strategic financial objectives in 2022-23 with a focus on more enterprise badged projects.

The successful candidate will have experience in managing the finances of externally funded research projects and should be able to demonstrate significant knowledge of accounting standards. Previous experience in higher education accounting, international funded project reporting, budget setting and reconciliation are essential.

A flexible working pattern at a minimum of 0.8fte will be considered for this role. The successful candidate will be line managed by the Deputy Head of Faculty Finance and work under the supervision of the WorldPop Programme Manager and Director at the Highfield campus of the University of Southampton. The position is currently funded until 31 August 2023, with a strong likelihood of extension.
