The Head of Business Engagement and Employability is a newly established senior academic leadership role that will report into the Provost for Innovation and Research and will play a leading role in driving forward the University’s strategic ambitions around enterprise, business development, and employability activities. The postholder will provide visible cross-university leadership to develop sector-leading business engagement relationships that will support the University to achieve its strategic ambitions in REF, TEF and KEF, as well as leading the University’s Careers and Employability function.

The postholder will be required to build strong partnerships across industry and business to generate income for the University and opportunities for students and graduates to gain industry-relevant opportunities through work experience or internships. The Head of Business Engagement and Employability will oversee the activities that will ensure University of Derby graduates are highly skilled and valued in a competitive and changing graduate employment market. This role requires an experienced strategic leader with the knowledge and insight to drive forward an ambitious strategy at a transformational time.

You will either be a senior academic postholder, with a strong research track record and experience of business stakeholder engagement, or bring a wealth of senior leadership experience in business, with strong commercial acumen and experience of developing partnerships between industry and higher education. Experience of developing successful teams to achieve ambitious targets around one or more of the following areas is essential: research, innovation, commercial partnerships, or income generation.

You will also need to demonstrate relevant and recent knowledge of graduate outcomes and the graduate employment market, and demonstrate an understanding of the impact of wider HE policies and regulations on the development of employability and engagement strategies.
