The Department invites applications for the above positions.

The Department has a key research niche in smart society emphasizing the research themes of (i) environmental and urban systems; (ii) populations and well-being; and (iii) learning, praxis, and governance. Together with other departments in the Faculty, which include Education Studies, Geography, Government and International Studies, History, and Sport, Physical Education and Health, the Department strives to build interdisciplinary synergy and international partnerships to address social issues of increasing local and international significance.

The research expertise of the Department clusters around four substantive areas: (i) gender, family and life course, (ii) social networks and social inequalities, (iii) globalisation and social change, and (iv) cultures and identities. One key feature of research in the Department is its convergence on Chinese societies, including Hong Kong, Mainland China, and other Chinese societies overseas.

Successful applicant(s) are expected to: (i) contribute to the research strengths of the Department, (ii) teach at undergraduate and/or graduate levels, and (iii) obtain competitive research grants.  Preference will be given to candidates whose research expertise aligns with the strategic research directions of the Department and Faculty.
