The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a government-funded tertiary institution in Hong Kong. DEPARTMENT OF LAND SURVEYING AND GEO-INFORMATICS

Teaching Fellow in Land Surveying / Geographic Information Science / Near-surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities (Ref. 21122303)

The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) is widely considered as a centre of excellence in both education and research in Geomatics and related fields. The Department offers a range of academic programmes to both local and overseas students, including Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Master of Science in Geomatics and Doctor of Philosophy.  LSGI has a very strong research programme that encompasses research activities in the areas of urban informatics, spatial big data analytics, geographical information science, satellite positioning, ubiquitous positioning, photogrammetry and remote sensing, geodesy and geodynamics, environmental monitoring, geo-hazards studies, intelligent transport systems, smart city, utility system management, location-based services, geographical social science and near-surface geophysical survey. There are currently 23 academic staff, 12 supporting members, over 50 research staff and PhD students in the Department. The total student number is over 500. The Department is seeking highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals with research expertise in one of the following areas: Land Surveying, Geographic Information Science, Spatial Data Science, Near-surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities.

Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) undertake teaching duties at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

(b) coordinate and supervise student seminars, tutorials and projects / theses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels;

(c) contribute to programme / curriculum / subject planning, administration and development;

(d) assist in organizing scholarly activities and pedagogical exploration in relation to students’ learning experience;

(e) undertake administrative duties in academic and departmental affairs; and

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his/her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a master’s degree or a PhD degree in Land Surveying, Geographic Information Science, Near-surface Geophysical Surveying on Underground Utilities or a related area;

(b) at least three years of post-qualification tertiary teaching experience and/or relevant professional, practical or industrial experience, and a proven employment record;

(c) effective classroom teaching skills and be open to the use of e-learning and blended learning modes;

(d) a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese; and

(e) a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and professional service.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
