About the opportunity

The University's Strategic Ventures Office is embarking on an exciting period, providing critical support to various portfolios, faculties, and other communities with delivering major strategic initiatives of the University. As a result, we are seeking a Senior Advisor, Strategic Ventures to support the Director, Strategic Ventures and other subject matter expert leads by providing high quality consultation, advanced research and discovery, and design and assessment for new strategic ventures. As the Senior Advisor, you will take a lead role in strategy planning, commercial and M&A deals, innovation and transformation programs across the University. You will operate as a trusted advisor to various academic and professional communities and contribute to forward-thinking plans and projects that will advance the University's education, research, and commercial objectives.

Your experience in executive engagement and your commercially aligned approach will be integral in influencing effective business outcomes in line with the University's Strategic Plan.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work closely with the Director, Strategic Ventures, contributing expertise to the negotiation, structuring, and execution of new strategic ventures
  • develop effective partnerships for evaluation of opportunities, including sharing information on trends and insights
  • provide portfolios and faculties with due diligence, investment risk analysis, and recommendation development for new initiatives
  • partner with portfolios (OGC, Finance, Research, Education, External Relations) to contribute deep expertise in key content areas to design and deliver solutions, proposals, and business cases for review and agreement of the University Executive
  • manage relevant project plans across the University
  • line management of associate advisors and advisors
  • contribute to the collective knowledge of the Strategy Portfolio by keeping current with the research and education policy, funding landscape and performance nationally and internationally.

About you

  • working experience as a Senior or Executive strategy advisor (or similar) either within a large and complex organisation (government and higher education experience is desirable) or from a consulting background
  • extensive experience in consulting, business case development and design of transformational projects
  • competency in the analysis of business model performance, including operational and economic analysis
  • experience project managing multiple work streams or working in large complex projects
  • proven capability partnering directly with executives and senior leaders to facilitate partnership and to design tangible outcomes from strategic ideas and concepts
  • elevated relationship management skills and the ability to operate with tact and professionalism in diverse internal and external environments
  • strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills together with effective leadership and people management skills as you will be managing a small team of Associate Advisors
  • outstanding presentation, communication and influencing skills to deliver messaging on a variety of channels to varied audiences
  • flexibility in their organisation and planning skills to balance competing agendas and demands in a fast paced, time pressured environment.
