At the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Institute of History, the Chair of History of Technology and Economy, offers at the earliest possible date a position as

Research Associate / PhD student / Postdoc (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

for the Economic History. The position comprises 50 % of the fulltime weekly hours for an initial period of three years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e.g. PhD/habilitation thesis) in the field of economic or business history (19th or 20th century).

Tasks:  

  • you regularly teach courses based on the DAVOHS
  • in organizing events, supervising publications, soliciting and conducting research projects, and presenting research results, you actively collaborate with the chair´s economic history section.

Requirements:

  • you have a university degree either in history or in sociology or economics (with a historical focus)
  • you have authored a very good master's thesis or dissertation, preferably on a topic of economic, business, financial or social history in the time period of the 19th or 20th century
  • you enjoy transmitting knowledge and are familiar with archival work, research and scientific writing
  • you like the mix of working on your own and collaborating in teams, you have strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • you are fluent in speaking and writing German and/or English. If English is your main language (level C2 or higher), then German language skills of at least level B2 are expected spoken and written.

Note: Another position is open for the History of Technology section of the chair. For post-doctoral level candidates with excellent competencies in both work areas, a combined position (100% of the fulltime weekly hours) may be considered by the chair holder.
