- Contribute to the development of a world-leading aeromedical and air taxi eVTOL aircraft, in close collaboration with our industry partner AMSL Aero
- Base Salary (Level A/B) $95,047- $131,639 + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
Reporting to Associate Professor Dries Verstraete, the Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellows, will work with a team of engineers and researchers to design, optimise, wind-tunnel- and flight-test the propulsion system of a multi-seat air ambulance and air taxi. They will drive the development and extension of an optimisation suite tailored to an eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing) configuration and take a leadership role in generating high quality research output of relevance to the industry partner. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the optimisation of an aeromedical eVTOL aircraft with the aim to be the most efficient and longest range eVTOL aircraft globally.
We have two distinct roles available at either Level A or Level B. One role focusing on the propulsion system optimisation and one on the cooling system integration.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- optimize the propulsion system of the eVTOL aircraft, including propeller, motor, and speed controller integration
- reduce the noise footprint of the aircraft and improve its efficiency
- analyse different cooling packaging options trading off weight, drag, and installation penalties
- assess optimal integration of fuel cell and battery energy sources.

About you
The University values courage and creativity; openness and engagement; inclusion and diversity; and respect and integrity. As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for Postdoctoral Researchers who have:
- completed (or near completion) a PhD in a topic related to multi-disciplinary optimisation of aircraft, aero-propulsive interactions of eVTOL aircraft, multi-fidelity optimisation, propeller and/or rotor design, or related fields
- experience in large-scale optimisation using medium to high fidelity tools
- experience in heat exchanger design and optimization, and cooling system integration
- experience in conducting and publishing high quality research in one or more of the following areas: aircraft design, aeronautical optimisation, propeller design, optimisation of expensive computational problems.
To apply for this role, please submit a cover letter addressing the above criteria, providing evidence for appointment at either Level A or Level B.
Closing date for applications
11:59 pm, 31 January 2022
