At the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology there is a vacant permanent position as tenure track Associate Professor in Digital Security and Sustainable transformation within our Human, Organisational and Societal Aspects Discipline.

The tenure track is a fixed term possition of six years. During this period the successful applicant will be given professional guidance, training, and advice by mentors appointed by the department to build a successful academic career.

The applicant will be subject to a mid-career assessment after three years, and a final tenure assessment after no more than six years. It is expected that the applicant will qualify for a full professorship at the end of the tenure-track period.

The workplace, depending on the interest of the applicant, can be either Gjøvik or Trondheim

You will report to the Head of Discipline.

Responsibilities 

• Play a leading role in research and research-based education related to the research field in close collaboration with existing staff at NTNU
• Engage extensively in applications for external funding, e.g. from the Research Council of Norway, European research and educational agencies, the industry sector and other available sources.
• Contribute to the department’s educational profile and an excellent learning environment in collaboration with colleagues, students and external stakeholders. He/she should supervise BSc students, MSc students, PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows.
• Contribute to the development of our experimental infrastructure together with our collaboration partners
• Disseminate relevant parts of his/her research to a wider audience (public outreach).
• Participate in the management of research, education and other relevant academic activities in agreement with the department

Required qualifications 

You must have the qualifications required for the position of associate professor in the field of digital security and sustainable transformation, as outlined in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts 

• Your PhD, or comparable academic work, must be within the field of digital security and sustainable transformation (or a comparable relevant field), the Ph.D. should have been awarded in the last five years (not inculding parental leave or similar)
• Relevant academic fields include

• Good written and oral English language skills

If you can document that you are in the final stages of your PhD studies, your application may also be considered. 

You must document relevant basic competence in teaching and supervision at a university/higher education-level, as referenced in the Norwegian national Regulations. If this cannot be documented, you will be required to complete an approved course in university pedagogy within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses. 

New employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language by appointment is required, within three years, to demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three of the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

Salary and conditions

A position as associate professor (code 1101) will typically receive a gross salary of between 560 000 NOK – 760 000 NOK per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. As required by law, 2% of this salary will be deducted and paid into the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

Employment will be granted in accordance with the principles outlined in the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. Applicants should be aware that there may be changes in the working environment after employment has commenced.

It is a prerequisite that you are able to be present and accessible at the institution daily.

Joint work will also be considered. If it is difficult to identify your specific input to a joint project, you must include evidence of your contributions.

While considering the best-qualified applicants, we will pay particular attention to personal qualities, your motivation for applying for the position, and your pedagogical skills and qualifications. Our assessment will be based on documented pedagogical material, forms of presentation in your academic works, teaching experience, PhD, and Masters supervision, and any other relevant pedagogical background. Both quality and scope will be taken into consideration. 

NTNU is obliged by the evaluation criteria for research quality in accordance with The San Fransisco Declaration on Research Assessment – DORA. This means that we will pay particular attention to the quality and academic range demonstrated by your scientific work to date. We will also pay attention to research leadership and participation in research projects. Your scientific work from the last five years will be given the most weight.

Research is vital to the security of our society. We teach and conduct research in cyber security, information security, communications networks and networked services. Our areas of expertise include biometrics, cyber defence, cryptography, digital forensics, security in e-health and welfare technology, intelligent transportation systems and malware.
